First Day of Class

housekeeping...

Thanks for enrolling you and your pet in my group training class. You'll learn a lot,  have fun, and be amazed how smart your pet really is. Here is your list of what to bring for the first day of school.

Please arrive on time. Bring a folding chair and good attitude for each human attending. Bring your dog on a leash and collar or harness of your choice. Do not bring your dog on a choke chain, pinch collar and do not bring a retractable leash. I'll help you select effective, smart and humane training equipment you can 'test drive' before purchase. You'll pick out the portable training mat you like on the first class. A ten foot leash with a bolt snap is required for class.  I have them for sale for eight dollars at the first class.

Please bring cash or check for the full amount of the class you are attending, made out to Companion Dogs:

I do not accept credit cards.

My assistant and I will greet you, pick up your registration form you received in the mail and get you settled in class. We'll make sure both ends of the leash are safe, happy and smart. We'll enjoy our five week training adventure from the start.

Group Class Q and A

What happens is I miss a class?
Come to another location for a make up class on your own. You can find the time and location on this site under 'locations'.

What about Thanksgiving vacation?
We have no classes that week. And, this session is completed on Dec. 12th 2009

Can my children train the dog in class?
Children are welcome, but must be physically and emotionally mature enough to actually train in class. Most children do better as seated observers and spend the week at home training their pet.

What is my dog is disruptive the first class?
That's why he's in class! It's okay if your pet is less than perfect. Class is a strange and new activity, and many pets are nervous the first class. By the second week, even frightened pets (and people!) are more relaxed.

Will my dog pay attention for a ninety minute class?
Yes, and so will you. My classes are lots of fun, with times of active training alternating with 'sit in your chair' learning time for the humans. Ninety minutes gives us lots of time for learning, review and questions without the time clock ticking. I did standup and improvisational comedy, and there are tons of funny things dogs do in class. Your two legs will laugh a lot....a lot! and that means the dogs learn more, too.

What if I can't remember what we learn?
Bring paper and pen for notes. I teach more in one class than most trainers do in an entire session. And, your training manual has lots of lessons, too.
