The Biting Dog - Private Training Program

from 250.00

Does your dog bite humans?

Dogs that bite humans are a tremendous liability risk. California, a highly litigious state, has strict bite liability;  the dog's owner is entirely responsible regardless of the circumstances that resulted in a bite. Did you know -Victims of a dog bite have one year to sue the owner. www.dogbitelaw.com

It is critical that I assess your dog and investigate each bite or snap incident. Bites generally fall into one or more well-defined categories. To misdiagnose a biting dog and use the wrong treatment plan only increases the problem. Owners who give an honest background of their dog's biting behavior get a better diagnosis.

Owners who enroll in this program must be dedicated to not only their pet's treatment but safety for others. Be prepared to use methods, none that employ violence to your dog, that are not 'garden variety' found on websites, Internet searches or suggestions from television trainers with artificially whitened teeth. Popular advice about biting dogs is generally poor. Cliches such as 'dominate your dog,' 'be your dog's pack leader,' 'use a pinch collar,' 'you have to show him whose boss' or 'hang him by the neck' do not help.

My approach to biting dogs is safety to all humans first, then, use scientific behavioral methods coupled with the basic needs and nature of your dog to relieve the cause(s) of the biting. Breed inherited traits must be understood clearly by you.

Dogs who bite family members, strangers or other humans are all eligible for treatment. Dog who bite children are eligible.

Sessions are generally in your home. The presence of the person(s) who the dog bites is not needed in every cases. Some sessions may be a 'field trip' to the veterinarian's office, groomers or out on a walk. Drugs are not used in this program unless prescribed by your veterinarian.

Enrolling in this program does not guarantee outcome. While many biting dogs can either be 'fixed' or managed, provided the owner follows all of my instructions, and thus remain in the home, I do not guarantee the future behavior of a biting dog. You are the sole responsible party as the owner of the dog.

The number of sessions needed varies based upon your pet's individual needs, if you're unsure of how many sessions to start off with, please contact me and tell me about your pet.

THE SESSION SCHEDULE IS AS FOLLOWS -

SESSION 1 IS A 120 MINUTE SESSION WHICH INCLUDES AN EVALUATION AND IN DEPTH REVIEW OF YOUR PET'S HISTORY.

SESSIONS 2-6 ARE 90 MINUTES EACH AND FOCUS SOLELY ON MODIFYING YOUR DOG'S NEGATIVE BEHAVIOR.

To ensure safety for pets and people all dogs are required to wear a basket mask. The ideal brand is the Baskerville. I call this tool a mask and not a muzzle as it is not painful, does not squeeze the dog's face and is treat friendly. You'll be able to reward your pet, with the basket mask on, with delicious treats as he learns to relax and be friendly.
